Come Holy Spirit, Come Light Divine

Come , Grant me the Spirit of Understanding, enlighten my mind with the light of Your Divine Truth. continues his catechesis this week on the gifts of the Holy Spirit. After having examined wisdom as the first of the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit. This week he draws attention to the second gift, the gift of understanding. He goes on to say that:” Born of our sharing in #God’s life through faith and baptism  the gift of understanding enables us to see in all things the unfolding of his eternal plan of .” The gift of understanding allows us to penetrate more deeply into the truths if our faith. The more we love the more we seek, the more we seek the more we find; and when our soul finds that which it loves it begins to understand God in a whole new way. The gift of understanding brings us face to face with the ‘Word who became Flesh.’  Our faith becomes personal and joy-filled  When the gift of understanding penetrates into the souls we are born again in the sense that we now see only what a soul in love with can see.images.jpg This gift sets our souls on fire and we want to share this gift with others because we now know a love, unlike all other loves. This love enables us to give our Fiat’ to Jesus in all that He may ask us. Our Fiat freely given strengthens us to carry our cross after Him, who has loved us so much that He gave His life for us.  This gift surpasses our human way of understanding, and now we began to see things in a divine way; what Pope Francis explained as “Intus Legere,” that is, “to read within.” Now we understand things with God’s understanding. I pray daily asking the Holy Spirit to give me the understanding to obey his will in my vocation as wife and .  We can get so lost in the things of the world that we lose our way, we stop seeing with the eyes of Jesus. We become entangled within ourselves and selfish behaviors set in. The gift of understanding is for all who have been baptized into God’s grace. The  Holy Spirit who helps us penetrate into the divine mysteries.  God communicates with the soul whose love has no limits, so the more we love the more our life reflects the life of God within us. Through the gift of understanding the Holy Spirit opens our soul to a new form of prayer, more simple, more profound, the soul now clings to the truth in all things and feels as though it’s soul has been immersed in the love of God. The soul becomes one with God and lives only by his will. This love is powerful, this understanding of God’s love is what drives us to become saints. For we now see with the eyes of God. Can it get any better than that? “By the light of understanding, I’ve tasted and seen Your profound nature, Eternal Trinity, and the beauty of your creation.” ~Saint Catherine of Siena, The Dialogue~

” That all Christians be Truly One’ #WorthRevist

Pope Francis calls all Christians to unity during His General Audience Catechesis. He challenges us not to remain resigned to this division, but to take the step towards reconciliation and full communion. “Holy Father, keep them in thy name which thou hast given me, that they be one, even as we are one,” (John 17:11)
We live in a world filled with so much division, hate, and anger.  an evil permeates in our lives fueled by a desire to erase God from families, marriages,  schools, and we go on as though nothing is wrong. We have become lukewarm, we want to remain in our ” comfort zone.” and Jesus is pushed aside families fall apart, marriages are destroyed, abortion is rampant,  no one cares about the family. We stop praying and going to church because we think God doesn’t care. But it is our pride that has pushed Him aside.
“Every attack against the unity of faith is an attack against Christ Himself”  ( Saint John Paul II)
What is the cause of the division? We have made ourselves God. This individualism weakness our souls because we see what we want to see. We fail to see the person that is in need sitting next to us. We refuse to listen to another’s point of view. We think we are right, division steps in. This individualism is the enemy of union. When we begin to live outside of God’s will, we say “Non-Servium,” I will not serve. In refusing to serve our fellow man, we say no to Jesus. This then is where our prayer life becomes obsolete and slowly grace diminishes in our soul. Now is the time to turn to the merciful heart of Jesus, and ask Him to teach us how to love the way He loved. We also must stand with the Blessed Mother at the foot of the cross, for the devil flees from the cross. Christ wants us to remain in union with the church, to help each other as brothers and sisters in Christ.

“Finally, you are one with Jesus as the body is one with the head. He must be your breath, heart, love, life, your all. These great gifts in the follower of Christ originate from baptism. They are increased and strengthened through Confirmation. Through the Holy Eucharist, they are brought to perfection.” -St. John Eudes

Come Holy Spirit, Grant me the Spirit of Piety,

michelangelos-pieta-zblizenie“That I may find the service of God sweet and amiable”
Service to God simply means to submit to Gods will for you at all times. That sounds easy enough you may be  thinking, but is it?  As a mother of seven children fulfilling Gods will is hard work and it is made more difficult if I am lacking the Gift of Piety. What does piety mean and why is it one of the Gifts of the Holy Spirit?
Pope Francis tells us that the gift of piety comes from within. It is a relation lived with the heart: it is a friendship with God, given us by Jesus; a friendship that changes our lives and fills us with enthusiasm and joy.
During the last four years I have been fighting a rare form of cancer. This walk with cancer has deepened my prayer life. My life, united with Jesus has made me more aware that my life is completely in the hands of my Loving Father in heaven. That nothing happens to me without His consent. I now know that without God I am nothing. Through the sacrament of baptism we become His children and He is our father. As a child loves his father we too love God and this love for God impels us to please Him in all things. For me that is to

imagesfulfill my vocation as wife and mother as perfectly as I can. When  we allow our souls to be guided by the Spirit of Piety we are enabled to promptly and with ease to fulfill our daily obligations. For example, when I have to get up in the middle of the night with my child I can do so with joy and love  and offer up to Jesus the loss of sleep for the salvation of souls. The gift of piety aids all those who battle  illness, it helps us to be more kind and to turn to prayer when we are scared or discouraged. Piety shows forth in all our actions. It speaks to the world that we are Christians.  It helps us treat others who may irritate us,with kindness or a smile. Why is this. Love. When piety touches love it activates the virtues  and we begin to live for Jesus with joy and gratitude, we are saints in the making.
The Blessed Mother models piety as she holds her Son, her Baby, Her God on her lap after He was taken down from the cross.           As one gazes on the “Pieta” you see a Mother  filled with sorrow as she holds her son. She is filled with sorrow but not overcome by sorrow. Her heart is breaking and  tears fall but she is in control of all her emotions as always. Piety was perfected in the Blessed Mother because she gave her “Fiat” to God. That one word was uttered out of Love and it brought her all the way to Calvary alongside Her Son Jesus. Let us pray for the gift of piety daily so we can give our “Fiat” to Jesus in whatever He may ask of us. Let us pray that we can be more like Jesus who fulfilled the will of his Father in all things even when he uttered the words “Not my will, but yours be done’ in the Garden of Gethsemane.
Let us pray together; Come Holy Spirit and breath upon us Your spirit of Piety and fill our hearts with the spirit of filial love.

“Likewise the spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with sighs too deep for words.” Romans 8:26
